Which blood group is needed most?
All of them. The blood services say every group is needed equally, since a patient always gets blood of their own or a matching group. Which groups are running lower shows in the reserves some services publish, and the app shows them.
Universal donor and recipient
A patient is always given matching blood. Still, people with 0 RhD negative are seen as universal donors, and people with AB RhD positive as universal recipients.
How common each group is
A is the most common group in Serbia. Among ITKS's donors:
- A positive 35%, A negative 6%
- 0 positive 30%, 0 negative 5%
- B positive 14%, B negative 3%
- AB positive 6%, AB negative 1%
85% are RhD positive and 15% negative. Your blood group is inherited and does not change in your lifetime. You do not need to know it before your first donation: it is found from the blood you give.
Blood reserves
ITKS, ZTKV and ZTK Niš publish their reserves by group, each in its own way. ITKS says what share of its reserves each group makes up, ZTKV and ZTK Niš how full the stock of each group is. The app shows them on its Next 7 days screen with their source and time, and marks your group if you enter it in the settings.
