Frequently asked questions

How often can I give blood?

Men can give blood every 12 weeks, three months, and women every 16 weeks, four months. Every blood service in Serbia and the rulebook on choosing donors say the same.

Why that long

Plasma is replaced in two days and red cells in about four weeks. Iron comes back slowest: about eight weeks in the red cells, and nearly three months to where it was before. Women wait longer because their monthly cycle makes them replace iron more slowly.

How many times a year

No rule gives a number of donations a year, only the gap between them. From the gap it follows that men can give at most four times a year and women three. That is our arithmetic, not a rule of the services. A regular donor is one who gives at least twice a year.

When can I give again

The app works out the date: write a donation down on the Donations screen and it says when you can give again, and the Can I donate? screen takes the rest into account too, such as a cold or a tattoo.

Platelets more often

Platelets are given another way, by apheresis, and more often: at ITKS every 15 days. More in how platelets are given.
