Giving blood when pregnant, after giving birth and during a period
Blood is not given during pregnancy. After a birth, a miscarriage or an abortion you wait 180 days, about six months. During a period, giving is put off until it is over. That is the table ITKS and ZTKV publish.
What the questionnaire asks
The women's part of the questionnaire has three questions: whether you are pregnant, whether you have your period now, and whether you gave birth or ended a pregnancy in the last six months. The answers stay between you and the doctor.
Why the wait
Pregnancy and giving birth use up a lot of iron and blood, and the body needs months to make them up. For the same reason women give blood less often than men anyway, every 16 weeks, and their haemoglobin must be above 125 g/L.
Breastfeeding
None of the Serbian blood services we checked gives a wait for breastfeeding. Ask the doctor at the donation.
Platelets
For platelet donation ZTKV takes only women who have never been pregnant. More in how platelets are given.
From which day exactly
On the Can I donate? screen choose Women and enter the date of the birth or the end of the pregnancy, and the app says from which day you can give.
