What do I need to bring to give blood?
An identity document with your photo and your personal identification number, such as your identity card. Nothing else is asked for at the desk: the questionnaire is filled in there, and you can read it beforehand.
The document
Citizens of Serbia show an identity document with a photo and the personal number when they sign in. Foreign nationals who have lived in Serbia for more than six months also show their document of temporary residence. ITKS and ZTKV say it the same way. The sources do not say what somebody who has been in Serbia for a shorter time should bring, so ask the service you are going to.
The questionnaire
Before every donation you fill in the national donor questionnaire and sign it: the law asks for written consent before each one. ITKS publishes the questionnaire as a PDF, also in English, so you can read the questions beforehand. The app's Can I donate? screen asks the same questions, and the answers stay on your phone.
What to wear and who may come
ZTK Niš says to wear what suits the weather and to avoid tight sleeves, which make the examination and the donation easier. It also says friends or children may be present if you wish.
What happens, in order
ITKS lists the steps as the questionnaire, registration, the haemoglobin check, the doctor's check-up, the donation from a vein in the crook of the elbow, and a thank-you meal. ZTK Niš adds that those who give for the first time have their blood group determined after the haemoglobin check. Every donor is given the printed instructions for donors on arrival. The whole visit takes about half an hour: see does giving blood hurt, and the guide for the day before and the day after.
If you are nervous
The Red Cross of Serbia says that if you are afraid, you can come to a drive the first time just to see what it looks like.
